1 : acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin
2 a : morally right or justifiable (a righteous decision) b : arising from an outraged sense of justice or morality (righteous indignation)
Now that we all know what Righteousness is, how do you suppose that the act of being Righteous will help us to live a LongLife?
Proverbs 10
Contrast of the Righteous and the Wicked2 Ill-gotten gains do not profit,
But righteousness delivers from death.11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
But the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.16 The wages of the righteous is life,
The income of the wicked, punishment.21 The lips of the righteous feed many,
But fools die for lack of understanding.
Think about it for a moment. If Righteousness is “acting in accord with divine or moral law” than doing otherwise would naturally bring on negative results, death, violence, punishment, lack of understanding. Look at nature, even lion cubs, bear cubs, wild dogs, wolves, even insects like bees and ants must follow laws in order to survive. Look into any civilization from the beginning of time. When has this rule not played out just as the verses above state?
It just makes sense. If you want to have Life and actually enjoy Life (John 10:10) then the way to get Life is by being Righteous before God and man.
