In today’s verses Solomon tells us some ways that the upright person will differ in outcome from the wicked person. Again we see here the righteous person along with the person who thinks and acts wisely before he speaks and the person who thinks before he acts, before he does one thing or another, before he goes one place or another.
Contrast the Upright and the Wicked
Proverbs 12 : 28
In the way of righteousness is life,
And in its pathway there is no death.
Proverbs 13 : 3
The one who guards his mouth preserves his life;
The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
Proverbs 16 : 17
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil;
He who watches his way preserves his life.
And what are the outcomes or rewards for this type of prudence?
First we have life, which is current life, daily life, as apposed to a pathway to death. Then we have quality of life, a higher quality of life rather than a life with no rhyme or reason, a life of ruin. Lastly we have the road of life, the progression or the length of life.
We can all do these things, be righteous and think wisely before we speak or act, to some degree of success, but if we are really seeking LongLife we should call on the Holy Spirit to be our helper, to assist us, that we might excel in these areas of our daily walk that we might obtain our goal of LongLife.
