Engage in Regular Exercise
Engage in Regular Exercise, including endurance and weight-bearing exercises.
In this article, Submitted by Kathleen Blanchard RN on Dec 1st, 2009, she said, “Keeping cells young with exercise might be the result of remaining physically active throughout life. New research shows that intense exercise may be anti-aging.” Now there are a couple words in this statement that we need to pay close attention to, the first is “young”, implying that the exercise routine should start when we are young and continue as a life style all of our lives. And the other word is “intense”, not just a walking or stretching program or even yoga which many people like to do. Intense exercise means to work out hard and long enough to stress your body beyond its comfort level thus causing it to grow to a peak level of health and then say there.
On the other hand if you are a Baby-Boomer like I am, you should also read this other article:

Nov. 30, 2009 (Chicago) — Weekend warriors, take note: Too much exercise may place you at risk for arthritis.
Charlene Laino tells us in this article that, “A new study shows that middle-aged men and women who engage in high levels of physical activity — at home and at work as well as at the gym — may be unwittingly damaging their knees and increasing their risk for osteoarthritis.”
She also points out that “high-impact, weight-bearing activities such as running and jumping are worse for knee health and carry a greater risk of injury over time.”
Now for the good news for us “old folks”:
Christoph Stehling, MD, of the University of California, San Francisco, chief participator in this study states, “Conversely, low-impact activities, such as swimming and cycling, may protect diseased cartilage and prevent healthy cartilage from developing disease.”
So the tip for today to Engage in Regular Exercise must take into consideration your age and beginning fitness level. I encourage you to read the two articles above and if you are not engaged in any regular exercise program to ask your Doctor if you could start one ASAP and chose one that fits you, not one that fits someone 20 or 30 years younger.
